Message from Susan Champagne/Owner, Magic Carpet Travel Ltd.

Every year members of the travel trade are asked to do a survey about upcoming trends, current business issues and the state of the industry as a whole. I thought I would like to share some of the results with you all.

1) 78% of the agents when asked said they where more proactive in contacting their clients when really good deals came their way. Let your travel agent know what you are interested in doing for the next couple of years. There are some really great deals out there that only we know about.

2) 39% of the customers are requesting and taking brochures as often as they did 3 years ago. The wholesalers are not supplying as many brochures (if any at all) due to the information on the internet. Browse the internet decide what you think you want , then call your travel agent to get the best deal.

3) 43% book their vacation over the telephone. Magic Carpet Travel does have an alternative to booking over the telephone and that would be booking through their website. www.magiccarpet.ca.

4) 19% of the agencies said they charged a service fee to book a cruise to make up for the Non-commissionables. Magic Carpet Travel does not charge a fee for booking a cruise and has some of the best prices in the industry due to their volume.

5) The most popular destinations are as follows:
Italy 30% France 13% Ireland & Spain 5% Estonia 2%
U.K. 18% Germany 7% Hungary & Greece 3% Other 12%

6) Mexico is the most popular sun destination by 32% Dominican Republic 16% & Cuba 16%, and the rest of the caribbean make up the rest. Mexico is in the news a lot lately but there are lots of places in Mexico not taken over by the drug cartel.

This is one of the most interesting careers out there and Magic Carpet Travel is always looking to add to its superior Home Based Consultants. If you have the desire to become TICO certified, and have an excellent source for a client base please call Sandy Renaud at 519-979-2500.

Another fact that you may be interested in is that the Travel Industry Council of Ontario’s Compensation Fund has more than $25 million. Recently TICO’s board of directors approved payment of $10,250.33 to assist 11 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid. The board denied 9 other claims based on section 57(1) of Ontario Regulation 26/05, which states that the consumer must have paid for the travel services to or through a registered Ontario travel agency. The claims were filed by consumers who had purchased their travel services from travel agencies located in the U.S. Don’t be fooled, sometimes you think you are booking with a wholesaler direct and you are being filtered through an agency in the U.S. and you have no idea! Protect your investment - It costs nothing more.
